Elvis
Elvis
A Supernatural story by Lara @Larrs9325
“Wait. Go back.”
Sam and Dean have already been asleep for hours. Being so wired from the day’s hunt, you knew you weren’t going to get even the recommended four hours tonight. He doesn’t sleep at all. So, you two decided to keep each other company.
After five minutes of skipping through radio stations, you, apparently, found a winner. Per his request, your thumb and index finger slowly turn the dial backwards. The soft melody continues playing.
♫ ...only fools rush in… ♫
You look to him with mild surprise.
“What?” His crystal-blue eyes carry the question just as much as his rose-petal lips.
♫ ...would it be a sin… ♫
You slide the old pocket radio down the length of the bed so it sits beside him. Leaning back against your headboard, you answer, “Elvis?”
“Should I know who that is?”
You give him a smile to let him know you’re messing with him. “Maybe. Probably.” You point to the radio. “I guess you know now.”
He pulls the radio onto his lap, studying it intently. A few seconds pass. He shifts his gaze back to meet yours.
♫ ...some things are meant to be… ♫
“I like him,” he confirms.
You nod and reach for the radio. It’s safely cradled in his hands as you increase the volume a notch or two. When you retreat, your thumb softly grazes one of his.
♫ ...take my hand… ♫
You’re back to sitting upright, but farther down the bed now. Closer to the sweet music. Closer to him. You cross your legs in front of you, careful not to upset the hemline of his trench coat.
♫ ...For I can’t help falling in love with you... ♫
His seated position remains unchanged, but all of his focus is on you. He lifts the radio slightly, as a gesture.
“It’s beautiful,” he says faintly.
Your heart momentarily seizes. You take a breath to start it up again. What do you say? The silence has gone on too long. You opt for the only solution that comes to mind.
You sing.
“Take my hand. Take my whole life, too…”
Your quick decision is rewarded with the lightest of smiles. It is weightless, radiant. Oh, what rare gift to see delight on his often-mournful face. You would do anything to keep it there. You continue singing.
“For I can’t help falling in love with you.”
The smile subsides, but the brightness in his eyes remain.
His stare falls to study the curves of your musical mouth.
You run your tongue between your lips, for they’ve gone suddenly dry. Breathing shallowly, song forgotten, you only have one thought, one wish, one desire.
Move in closer.
Elvis sings the final line without you.
♫ For I can’t help falling in love with you ♫
