Finale musings, or Why it's tough to Carry On

DISCLAIMER: All opinions and feelings about the Supernatural finale are valid. I am not trying to change any minds here. I'm just giving my own perspective, for what it's worth, which is no more or less than what YOUR perspective is worth. Or anyone's. This is how I, and only I, see the story. As always, YMMV. And that's a beautiful thing. <3 You can deeply appreciate something... and still wish you had more. You can say thank you for your 8-ounce coffee, and even take a moment to be amazed by all the work by so many that it took to get it from a mountain in South America or Africa to your waiting, cold hands... and still wish you'd gotten the 12-ounce. And you can really, really wish you'd gotten a donut to go with it.  I guess that's how I feel about the finale of Supernatural.  It was a beautiful piece of work. Especially the performances. Naturally. And as a story, in my opinion, it wasn't a bad one. In fact, I wrote something kind of like it , my...

In Which Heaven Becomes Not Boring

Image
In Which Heaven Becomes Not Boring A Supernatural story by Gina  @ShinyElfriend The multi-talented Gina takes the #SPNWishList fic and art challenge literally, and delivers both! Gina responded to the prompt: "What if OG Charlie and Ash are pals in heaven?" To be honest, this is my dream scenario, and it couldn't be in more capable hands than Gina's. I want MORE adventures from these two geniuses! -- Jennie Charlie stepped out of the tent and considered her kingdom… such as it was. Apparently Moondoor was what whoever pulled the levers up here had decided was Charlie’s idea of Heaven. Could be worse, but knowing what she knew, which, as usual, was more than most people in a given situation, kinda sucked the joy right out of it. At first it had been OK. She forgot about the dying thing, and thought she was here to LARP, but apparently Heaven couldn’t decide if she was LARPing or tripping balls, offering her a bizarre combination of the limits of human...

Thinky Thoughts: Inside Dean Winchester

Image
"I've never had anything this nice." -- Dean Winchester So now we're getting to the tough stuff. Forgive me, my thoughts are still very much jumbled on this. If you'd like, read Part 1 and Part 2 before we get started. While we waited through Hellatus, I had envisioned Rocky's Bar -- in my short stories Welcome to Rocky's and Last Call -- as a place where Michael kept Dean placated by sort of separating him into two halves... splitting the warrior off from the caretaker. The warrior, safely bound somewhere in Dean's mind. The caretaker, content to tend bar in a simple, but pleasant, fantasy. In my stories, Rocky is the absent owner, the guy who gets into scrapes, stirs up trouble, and Dean is "just Dean" -- a guy doing a job, who doesn't want to make waves with anyone. Rocky's turned out to be quite different -- and more than I could ever have imagined. A central question to me, though: Is this a place created by Mi...

Thinky Thoughts: Laying down some canon fire

Image
Michael: Tell me. Why do you love this world enough to risk your own life? Castiel: Tell me. Why do you hate this world enough to burn it to the ground? How pissed off Michael must have been to find out that God was a close, personal friend of Dean Winchester's. #Supernatural #Nihilism rewatch — Dean's Not Fine #SPN300 💔🥃🥧 (@DeanIsntFine) January 18, 2019 Whoa... Steve Yockey, while doing some emotional, in-depth work with dialog and parallels in "Nihilism," also dropped some serious canon in our laps, didn't he? #Supernatural #Nihilism rewatch Cas is so absolutely done with hearing his brothers whine about their dad. — Dean's Not Fine #SPN300 💔🥃🥧 (@DeanIsntFine) January 18, 2019 I guess we shouldn't be surprised to hear that Michael has a beef with God... But in one little exchange with Cas, Yockey explains what we've all been wondering since the AU was introduced: Multiple worlds... multiple versi...

Jam Session

Art by Blakravell at DeviantArt. Visit their gallery here . Jam Session A Supernatural story by Jennie @DeanIsntFine Well, it wasn't bacon. But it was always going to be something, wasn't it? And sooner rather than later. He'd had a good run. No use crying about it now. As Dean nursed a lukewarm PBR at the bar in Harvelle's, he thought, all in all, he was happy to be there. There were far worse places to be spending eternity. The roadhouse was quiet now... and smelled exactly the same. Dean smiled a wry smile and took another sip of beer. He heard the bell over the door ring, and in walked Chuck -- worn jeans, Converses and a raglan T. Dean raised his can in greeting. "Chuck! Love what you've done with the place." Chuck regarded him with a sad smile and slid onto the stool next to Dean's. "How you holding up, Dean?" Dean looked sidelong at God and laughed, admittedly a little angry, with a side of bitter. ...
