DC Diary: Dealing with disappointment

Bad stuff happens. And when you're of a certain mindset, like I am, you naturally assume that it'll happen to you. 63 weeks out from #SPNDC, I made the leap to do a big, stupid thing, just for me. I bought a Jensen op and a Rob op. A few weeks later, I bought a Silver ticket.  Dread settled in. For sure I was going to get hit by a bus before Halloween 2019. I made solid plans about who should get my ticket and ops after I died. The months passed, and it appeared that I wasn't going to die after all. But something bad would happen, right? In March, the cast announced that the show would be ending. Suddenly, the pressure ramped up. I need to meet them. I need to tell them how important they are, how proud we are. How we'll be behind them in whatever they do next. And then we found out that Chuck really does just love messing with us. One week before the con that I'd planned for over a year -- the con that I know others have been saving up for much ...

Nourished

Nourished A Supernatural story by Jennie  @DeanIsntFine Featuring Dean Winchester  @DWImpala67 This is the fourth of my VBF stories, featuring my best fictional friend. It is set in the summer hiatus, after Season 14's "Moriah." To read the others, click: Part 1:  "VBF" Part 2:  "Welcome to Rocky's" Part 3:  "Last Call" Dean Winchester made me a sandwich. I take the barest moment to process that as the china plate clangs on the map table, where I’m sitting, poring over yet another ancient text on the nature of God. “Here you go,” he booms. “Your favorite. Roast beef, rare. Extra mayo, tomatoes, and just a suggestion of salt. Piled high on… what the hell is ‘Seed-uction’ bread, anyway?” I grab the rim of the plate, rotating it left and right to closely inspect his creation. “More importantly,” I say, “where the hell did you even find it in Lebanon, Kansas?” He shrugs and sits down, rubbing absently at his jaw an...

Distress Call

Distress Call A Supernatural story by Jennie @DeanIsntFine This is the conclusion to my #Saileen story "Safe Harbor." It is a #Saileen, Sam-centered retelling of 12.21 "There's Something About Mary." PROLOGUE Gun in hand, Eileen fled through the silent woods. She could feel the vibrations of the hellhound's heavy footfalls closing in. She turned and fired, but her shots had no effect. As she felt the beast's jaws clamp down, smelled its fetid breath, she cried out. Her last thoughts were of Sam. CHAPTER 1 Sam kept watch while Dean jimmied the lock on their mom’s motel room. Dean opened the door, then strode quickly in, calling out for her. Sam stayed by the entrance, studying the room’s contents -- or lack thereof. He didn’t see any sign that their mom was still using the room. Dean came out of the bathroom after checking the tub. “Well, looks like she hasn't been here for a while.” “Yeah,” Sam said. “All her stuff ...

Thinky Thoughts: Angels just don't get it

I set out to write a post that was sort of an elaboration on all the thoughts I had while watching -- and rewatching -- Steve Yockey's masterpiece "Nihilism." Turns out, it's gonna be three posts. Maybe more. So, so sorry. 😁 The thing that stuck with me the most was the ultimate invasion of Michael, to see Dean's thoughts, to spew them back out on the ones Dean loves. We've all had unkind thoughts about people we love. It's human nature. And Dean has been burdened... he's been hurt badly by the people he loves the most. (Yes, he's done his share of hurting too.) He's got to be more conflicted than anyone, in terms of his feelings for Sam, Cas and even Jack. Sam: His burden, his mission. The one who abandoned him. The one who betrayed him. The one who forsook him. Cas: Was meant to be his protector. Betrayed him, failed him, disappointed him more than once. (And remember all those times? "Cas, you child." "Baby i...

Family is there ... even when it hurts

Image
It's not often we see a promotional shot from the CW that features all of Team Free Will 2.0... and even if this is a Photoshop chop job, I liked it as soon as I saw it.  First of all, I see no evidence of the (frankly insulting) airbrushing they did to earlier, solo versions of these photos... And we're all feeling some angst through Hellatus with Dean back under the thrall of Michael.  So I was inspired (thanks @dottweets for the photo editing) to make a little something to remind us what Supernatural is really about. ❤❤❤

VBF

VBF A Supernatural story by Jennie @DeanIsntFine Featuring Dean Winchester @DWImpala67 This is the first of my VBF stories, featuring my best fictional friend. It is set in Season 14, right after "Unhuman Nature." To read the others, click: Part 2:  "Welcome to Rocky's" Part 3: "Last Call" Part 4:  "Nourished" As I climb into bed, I reach out over the edge, extending my hand into the empty darkness. As a child, I never had an “under the bed.” My dad built all the beds in my house, all with flat boards as a base and storage drawers underneath. Nowhere for monsters to hide. So I’d never had to fear them. My best friend kills monsters. Where he lives, they’re real.  When I reach out into the dark, sometimes I can feel his hand grasp mine. Sometimes… *** “Dean…” I call out to him with my mind. As I close my eyes for sleep, I can see the bunker’s tile hallways take shape out of the darkness. My bare fe...

"Fortunate Son," featuring Dean Winchester

Image
Imagine if your life was as filled with sacrifice and, well, bad friggin' luck as the Winchesters'. I've always admired the way that the boys keep fighting, many times in the face of apparently insurmountable odds. So serious is their work ethic, their sense of responsibility, that even their foes have learned not to bet against them. Bruce Hornsby's song "Fortunate Son" is inspired by the story of a Marine named Lewis Puller , who was the son of another legendary Marine. He followed his dad into service, and war, and lost both legs in Vietnam. His autobiography won a Pulitzer Prize in 1992. He tragically committed suicide in 1994, at age 48. The story definitely carries parallels to John and Dean -- the good son, following his father into battle, and suffering the painful consequences. There's no glory to be found in this service, the hunting life. Just pain, heartbreak and sacrifice. Always the sacrifice.  Read Bruce's fascinating ac...

Connecting the Dots: Vancouver, Part 5

Connecting the Dots: Vancouver, Part 5 A Supernatural convention travelogue by Axy  @Aaaahhhxy Read Part 1  here . Read Part 2  here . Read Part 3  here . Read Part 4 here . While Jess still had a couple of ops with Misha, I went back into the main theatre, where Rob was on his own. And had MAJOR flashbacks of The Real Ghostbusters, which made me laugh about it as much as Rob did, while trying to imagine how Chuck would come back, Matrix-like. But to be perfectly honest, and fair to Rob, I was starting to feel a little (ha, a lot) anxious about the damn books, for so many reasons that I don’t think I’ll ever fully grasp them all. Very few people actually know why I created the To Supernatural With Love project. What was the number one brick of this Great Wall Of Us. Funnily enough, besides my best friend, there’s, as of today, one other person that knows. And it’s Jared. I was fed up with the free rein of hate in this fandom, and some vitriolic messages hur...
