Celebrating #SPN300: Season 12, "Who We Are"


I did a lot of thinking about Season 12 when I wrote my two #Saileen fics -- Safe Harbor and Distress Call. (If you would have liked to have seen more of that couple, these stories might be for you! But they are canon-adjacent, so no happy ending there. Fair warning. They are not floof.)

Season 12 is about identity... finding it, losing it, reclaiming it. 

The British Men of Letters are introduced to show us something. Here's an entire agency, well-funded, with the highest technology and the brightest minds. And look: They want the same thing that American hunters do. To rid the world of monsters! 

If that's so, then why do they stink so badly? 

Throughout earlier seasons of the show, the Winchesters have grappled with "the ends justifying the means." Now here's an entire organization based on that, in the extreme. They do real evil in the name of their good. Their mission. They let nothing stand in their way.

So Season 12 is a chance for the Winchesters -- with Mary now included -- to find out what they're made of. To identify it, to delineate it. To distinguish themselves. To find out who they are.

And to draw a line in the sand. This far. And no farther.

And it's a special someone who steps up to draw that line.
“We know hunting isn't just about killing. It's about doing what's right, even when it's hard. ... They're scared of us. Yeah. Good. They should be.”

Leader Sam! (I know Jared sweats a lot, but it's so in-character for Sam to be dripping wet while he's doing what clearly makes him so uncomfortable. Bravo.)

    What a great spin on the BMoL!

    "Who We Are" is one of my top episodes in the series for so very many reasons. But since you mentioned it, I'll choose another ep.

    "Stuck in the Middle with You." Cool ep, overall. BUT I wanna focus on The Angel. Our beautiful, dying angel, whose speech to the ones he loves--yes, LOVES--both makes my heart soar and crushes it below a dirty boot.
