DC Diary: Dealing with disappointment

Bad stuff happens. And when you're of a certain mindset, like I am, you naturally assume that it'll happen to you. 63 weeks out from #SPNDC, I made the leap to do a big, stupid thing, just for me. I bought a Jensen op and a Rob op. A few weeks later, I bought a Silver ticket.  Dread settled in. For sure I was going to get hit by a bus before Halloween 2019. I made solid plans about who should get my ticket and ops after I died. The months passed, and it appeared that I wasn't going to die after all. But something bad would happen, right? In March, the cast announced that the show would be ending. Suddenly, the pressure ramped up. I need to meet them. I need to tell them how important they are, how proud we are. How we'll be behind them in whatever they do next. And then we found out that Chuck really does just love messing with us. One week before the con that I'd planned for over a year -- the con that I know others have been saving up for much ...

Nourished

Nourished A Supernatural story by Jennie  @DeanIsntFine Featuring Dean Winchester  @DWImpala67 This is the fourth of my VBF stories, featuring my best fictional friend. It is set in the summer hiatus, after Season 14's "Moriah." To read the others, click: Part 1:  "VBF" Part 2:  "Welcome to Rocky's" Part 3:  "Last Call" Dean Winchester made me a sandwich. I take the barest moment to process that as the china plate clangs on the map table, where I’m sitting, poring over yet another ancient text on the nature of God. “Here you go,” he booms. “Your favorite. Roast beef, rare. Extra mayo, tomatoes, and just a suggestion of salt. Piled high on… what the hell is ‘Seed-uction’ bread, anyway?” I grab the rim of the plate, rotating it left and right to closely inspect his creation. “More importantly,” I say, “where the hell did you even find it in Lebanon, Kansas?” He shrugs and sits down, rubbing absently at his jaw an...

Tales from Baby: Baby and the Green Cooler

Image
A Supernatural story by Mich  @raiahome It’s New Years Eve 2029. The Green Cooler is packed with beer, all nicely chilled of course, and is sitting in the backseat of the Impala as they wait for their boys. OK, some may say that at 46 and 50 Sam and Dean are no longer children, but to them, they would always be their “boys.” But that’s what happens when you’ve watched over people since they were babies. There’s a comfortable quiet in the garage. These two have known each other for more years than either wants to remember. They’ve seen the good, the bad and the ugly of a hunter’s life and managed to survive it together.  Sure, things are a bit quieter now that the Winchesters are concentrating more on training up young hunters, but they still take on the odd job now and then, and Baby and The Cooler are always ready for a new adventure. Tonight, however, isn't about monsters. It's about tradition. As the silence stretches on, The Cooler decides to break th...

Tales from Baby: Baby's Wake-Up Call

Image
A Supernatural story by Mich  @raiahome I bet some of you are wondering: “How does a car come to life?” After all, it’s just a hunk of metal and wiring. It has no heart, no brain, no soul. That’s true, and it’s the reason most cars never become aware. But sometimes someone is willing to share their own life. Willing to believe so strongly, care so deeply and put so much of their love into something that it can’t help but to come alive. Such a person is Dean Winchester. Hi! I’m Baby, and this is my story. I’m a black ’67 Chevy Impala. I’m sleek, strong, sexy, badass and beautiful, or so my owner tells me. I belong to Dean, and he belongs to me. So does his little...well, younger...  brother Sam. Now that I’ve had time to look in the rear view mirror, so to speak, I’ve been able to piece together how I became alive. It didn’t happen all at once. It took some time. In the beginning there were just flashes of sound. The laughter of children. A man’s gravelly v...

Turn the Page

Turn the Page A Supernatural story by Jennie @DeanIsntFine This story takes place between Season 9's "First Born" and "Sharp Teeth" -- on Dean's 35th birthday. January 24th dawned soot-gray, with sleet spitting from the sky, tick-tacking on the steel and glass of the Impala. Dean was curled into a comma on Baby’s back seat, clutching a thin blanket around his shoulders. He’d spent a fitful night in the car alternately shivering and sweating, the fresh brand on his right arm burning and itching as, presumably, his body rebelled against it.  Long, dark hours, trying to convince himself he wasn’t feeling something -- a change -- coming over him already. He grunted, shifted on the seat, and squinted at the face of his wristwatch in the morning murk. 7:30.  “Happy birthday to me,” Dean muttered. *** On a long and lonesome highway East of Omaha You can listen to the engine moanin' out its one-note song ... More on "Ouroboros" later, when we try to decide whether Steve Yockey is reading this blog or not... He really threw around the four-letter F word this week... Seemed like My Brand was never more on point! But I was immediately moved to change my Twitter header and profile pic. Thank you, Canva and Home of the Nutty !

Celebrating #SPN300: Season 14, "Damaged Goods"

It was all I'd ever needed from Mary Winchester. I wrote about this scene extensively in my Thinky Thoughts post titled "How Mary and I got square." Some of what I wrote there is reposted below. Way back in "Who We Are," when Dean confessed that he hated Mary as much as he loved her, he begged her: "Mom, I need you to see me." Here, at Donna's cabin, Mary finally sees him. She hears him. She listens to the story about his botched childhood efforts at making Winchester Surprise. She finally sees her little boys, alone in some motel room somewhere, fending for themselves -- with Dean shouldering the burden of responsibility. She finally hears about how John raged at them for stinking up the place -- for reminding him of her.  All I ever wanted was for Mary to hear that, one time. She doesn't have anything to answer for. She wasn't even alive. I get that. But if she wants to know her sons as men, she needs to look that in the...
